Is the replacement of missing teeth necessary

There are several who lose their permanent teeth owing to decay, diseases, or injury. This might look like a cosmetic issue, but not replacing missing teeth can be detrimental to both your oral and dental health. There might be questions popping up in your head if you have missing back teeth as they might.not seem important to be replaced. So is the replacement of missing teeth necessary? It is absolutely crucial to replace the missing teeth as it can leave you at several risks and you might face consequences for it too.

These are some consequences you might face if you don’t replace your missing teeth:

Biting and Chewing:

Normally, your teeth are correctly aligned and it is easy to bite or chew your food easily. But the moment you have a missing tooth or some missing teeth, a lot of stress falls on the remaining teeth and you will face difficulty in chewing or biting. This will also affect how well your body is able to digest the food as chewing is essential for digestion to work properly. You might also face difficulty eating those foods that are very chewy or crunchy or tough.

Faster deterioration:

The moment you do not opt for replacement of missing teeth, the pressure on the other teeth increases and they need to work more to compensate for the missing teeth. This will mean that these teeth will deteriorate faster as these few teeth now bear the brunt of chewing. Erosion at an earlier stage can affect the surrounding teeth in the place of the missing teeth and lead to additional loss of teeth. This can ultimately lead to severe dental issues, even for the front teeth.

Teeth misalignment:

If you do not replace the missing teeth professionally then the space created for the absence of the missing teeth leads to the other teeth shifting from its position near the gap. This will lead to the remaining teeth getting crooked or misaligned and cause other dental issues.

Bone resorption:

When a tooth is missing the bone around that area will also start getting lower and might get lost. Chewing preserves the structure and density of the bone. But the moment chewing in that gap stops, the bone mass will become fragile and shrink. Bone resorption can lead to change in the shape of the mouth and can make it shift or sag. Missing teeth can cause the muscles to drop due to misalignment. Hence, replacement can help to maintain bone health too.

TMJ disorder:

Temporomandibular joints are present on either side of the mouth and aid the rotation of jaw and chewing. The moment you are hesitant to go for a missing tooth replacement, there can be alterations in the structure of these joints causing severe pain and TMJ disorder.

How you Feel:

You will feel less confident to smile and grin and laugh to your heart’s content. When you have missing teeth, you’ll be conscious and might not smile at all. This can affect you mentally leading to lowering of self-esteem and confidence.

Usually, your dentist can replace those teeth with dental implants, tooth supported bridges or implant bridges or getting you removal of partial dentures. So if you have missing teeth, book an appointment with your dentist now and get your replacement done!
